If you are a mighty python fan this is a must-have game. The first movie my husband and I ever watched together was Monty Python. This was a paper anniversary gift for him, and even though we both don't like the movie (and we thought the other did), a person doesn't have to have watched the movie to play this. It's a very fast game, and plays almost exactly like the original version of Fluxx.I love the Fluxx series so much, and while I may play some of the other versions more often (I'll explain why at the end of this review), this is by far my personal favorite!!!!Fluxx is the perfect go-to game if you want something fast-paced, fun and easy to learn. Because the explanation and basic rules of the game are so simple, I've found that it's equally fun for brand-new players as for those who've played it before. Everything is explained on each card, so you can give very minimal instructions to new players and they'll pick it up easily. We usually use this as a warm-up game on game nights with friends and family, before moving on to more strategy-based games.Since I mentioned strategy, I will give you one word of caution: this is not a game for those who are looking for something with elaborate strategy and get frustrated when the plan they've been working on for several rounds either doesn't work out or backfires. The nature of the game is to be ever-changing, so you have to be willing to go with the flow. You can have some strategy, of course, but you have to be willing to see it blow up in front of you in seconds--and then laugh about it!A word about the theme versions of the game: this particular version is really best played when you're playing with others who know and love Monty Python. Several of the actions of the game give you bonuses based on your knowledge of the MP canon, including being able to quote from their show/movies or sing songs. It is playable with people who don't know MP, but I don't think it's as much fun for them. I own several of the other versions (original Fluxx, Star Fluxx, Oz Fluxx, Zombie Fluxx), and while I love this one the most (closely followed by Star Fluxx), I do make sure to play it with my MP-obsessed friends.Good giftFluxx is a ridiculous card game that I always keep in my purse. Waiting for your dinner at a restaurant on a busy Saturday night? You might just look over to see my husband and I playing a quick game of the original Fluxx while we're waiting for our meal! Monty Python Fluxx is a fun way to incorporate one of our favorite TV/movie franchises into our card game ritual. However, it's unlikely we'll be taking this one out and about, though we do play it weekly at our home. The one thing that keeps this game at home, and not in my purse, is that it seems to take slightly (15-20 minutes) longer to play. I don't know if it is the nature of the Python-specific Creeper cards designed to sandbag you from winning, or if some of the rules are just different enough from the basic game to make gameplay more complex, but my husband and I have yet to play a game of Monty Python Fluxx that takes shorter than 25 minutes. If you're a Python fan or a collector of Fluxx games, then pick this up - it's a definite addition that you need for your collection! But if this is your introduction to the world of Fluxx (and Looney Labs in general!) then I suggest trying the base Fluxx deck first and see how fun and quick of a time waster it can be for waiting rooms and crowded restaurants! My cousin got me into Fluxx not too long ago and we had a blast playing it. My wife purchased this for me, knowing I am a huge Monty Python fan as well as loving Fluxx. You don't have to own the original Fluxx game, as this is a stand alone pack and has similar rules. The object of the game is to win, but the way you win constantly changes...or is in flux. The number of cards you draw, or have to play, or have to discard changes. Rules change. Objectives change. The game can last an hour, or 2 minutes. It is a fun game and can even be played with two players. Throw in the irreverence of Monty Python and the craziness of the game elevates. On rule is you have to sing a part of a MP song to draw extra cards, or talk in an outrageous accent, or quote some lines from one of their skits or movie. This is a great game for any fan of Monty Python.I would definitely recommend this game for anyone that likes Monty Python, or just having fun in general.Personally, I love Monty Python, which was why I was so excited about this. I also love Fluxx. I was reallyyy hoping this would be amazing, but something about this one is a little lackluster, especially compared to ones like Star Fluxx, Star Trek, Dr. Who, etc. Also, I think you really have to be a Monty Python fan to fully enjoy this, or else the cards seem to go over everyone's head. For example, one of the cards has you quote something from the Holy Grail movie, which is funny and awesome! But, kind of lame when you play with people who don't have quotes memorized. This game is very fun! My cousin introduced me to it and when I found out there was a Monty Python version I was all in. The game cards do a very clever job of working the jokes and dialogue of the Holy Grail (and other famous skits) into the "rules" of the game. Any Python fan would appreciate the subtle jokes and uses of the games mechanics to pay tribute to Monty Python. very well made.If you've got Fluxx this isn't much different, it does include creepers which were new in later versions. This mainly focuses on the Holy Grail film however does have some cards relating to their other famous sketches, a certain resting parrot makes an appearance. This game is probably best suited to Monty Python fans as there are quite a few in jokes which a few non-python fans were perplexed by.I think my favourite card is the goal "The Cheese Shop" which means you win if you have absolutely no cards but there's also "My Brain Hurts" which allows you to discard rules until your brain stops hurting and many more.If you own a recent version of Fluxx is only worth getting this if you love Monty Python, if you don't own Fluxx you should definitely consider buying some version of it. It's a great fun game, with very simple mechanics that anyone can win.Great for Python Fans - especially of the Holy Grail as that is the majority of the content. This was bought for a friend who I got the chance to play a few games with.Very similar to the original but fits the new theme far better and makes for a great gift to any Python fan, not many ways you can get as many laughs at such a cheap price. Not the best game out there but its good enough as a filler or while travelling.Sometimes people have no keepers which can make the game drag on.What a great fun game to play!I have found it works best with 6-8 people playing. When they all know what they're doing, it is a very fun game to play, with only 1min set up time. We found that if we play a game too much, we eventually kill the fun, so we've limited how much we play it so that we can still enjoy playing it.If you're not a monty python fan, I suggest looking at the other versions of the game. they're all the same game, just with different themes. If you enjoy card games where you will laugh out loud, this is for you.Great fun, very entertaining to play - especially if you are a fan of Monty Python. Very heavily based on the Holy Grail, so it helps if you know the difference between an African and European swallow, but my boys with various levels of proper education (e.g. knowing the difference between vocative and ablative forms of Latin verbs) all enjoyed it anyway. My 3 teenage children and I played this endlessly over Christmas/New Year hols. The youngest can't quote MontyP to the extent of the other 2 but knew enough to enjoy the game. The greatest aspect of the game is the rule changing - just as you get used to one rule someone plays another one and the whole game changes! Certainly keeps you on your toes.If you're not into Monty Python or don't get the humour this game probably isn't for you, especially if you play against MP die hard fans.
