Players take on the role of historical Abolitionist characters and work together for the Abolitionist cause by raising funds, enacting laws, and helping enslaved people as they move from the Southern States to freedom in Canada. But their every move risks alerting the slave catchers who were dedicated to take away their freedom. Game Overview Choose a Role Each player selects a custom abolitionist role that gives you special benefits and abilities during the game. Step 1: Gain Funding and Conductor Tokens During the Planning Phase, each player may decide to pay for up to two action tokens from the token board. A token may only be taken if the player has enough money available, players may not give or lend money to each other. Since the game is cooperative, players may discuss strategies and offer suggestions. Step 2: Use tokens and Cards A conductor token allows a player to move a specified number of enslaved people. Funding tokens bring in crucially needed funds. Support tokens build the underground railroads infrastructure. And activating available historical actions, laws, or persons modify game play based on actual historical happenings. Step 3: Market Phase During the Market Phase, recaptured enslaved people are sold to the plantations in the south, bringing to light the economic and human brutality of the times. Through careful planning, fundraising, enacting laws, and supporting paths to freedom, players must help a number of enslaved people to freedom, before a set number are lost to the slavery systems of the time. Details of what actually happened in our history are brought to light - both the evil and the very good.
