Card Games for Kids and Family - What Am I Animal Planet Card Games Card Games : A letter to all children Hello and Welcome to our world of animal card games! Here you’re going to be introduced to so many different animals, and learn about how many different colours, sizes, behaviours and habitats the creatures of our wonderful world can have! Whether you love animals or not, whether you believe that you are a biologist of the future, or you aspire to be as knowledgeable as your dad, here is where you can learn a lot...… My name is Rhiannon Garrard, and I am the author of this wonderful game from the "What Am I" board games. For me, my love for animals came in 1992, when I was 3 years old. I was on a blanket in the garden and saw my very first ladybird when it scurried over my hand. I remember thinking how pretty and perfect it was, and from that moment I fell in love with life on earth. I was fascinated by all the critters on this planet – big and small. Nowadays, the hand that the little ladybird crawled over is covered in scars, because it has done much more than been a bridge for a beetle. It has touched the cold scales of the golden python, it has held the pacifier for a lion cub, and has even been pierced by the claws of an eagle. But despite my scars, I am happy for it – I have been able to be in contact with more animals than most people have had the pleasure to in their entire lives, and I would not change a thing, even if it means a hundred more scars on my hand. It is important to us here that the animal card games we have made have excellent pictures and accurate scientific content. Therefore, we have used high-definition pictures of the animals, and the content has come from research done from reputable sources, as well as my own persistent research in the field of zoology. Every animal, every card, will tell you the animal’s unique traits, habitats, behaviours and struggles. I'm often asked what my favourite animal is, but for me, that's an unanswerable question. Just flip one of these cards over, and each animal will have something beautiful and amazing in it. From the dark pattern of a viper, to the smooth curves of a seal, to, yes, the distinct red and black dotted pattern of a certain beetle – there are so many things to admire about all animals. So, my favourite animal is the next one I meet (but hopefully it won’t bite my hand as hard as the last one did!) I believe that inquisitive minds in adults are built from early childhood, and card games like this are perfect to spark up the imaginations of your curious. It might you even build a love for animals and this planet that will last a lifetime! Boring learning maybe can dampen your natural curiosity, but fun educational games can do wonders to broaden your intellectual horizons – as well as build bonds as a family. I hope these animals can inspire you the same way they did me. Treasure them, treat them and our planet with kindness and respect. Never stop learning. Love them, love life, love our earth. "What Am I" animal puzzle card games is the best gift the Earth can give you. This board games for kids 8-12 is perfect balance between scientific learning and fun, in-depth content for animal lovers and fun facts for children. Who Am I And How to Play ? "What Am I" Intended for players from 6 to 99 years old, the game is incredibly versatile! Children can enjoy them on their own, parents and children can play it together, or more than three people can play it at once! Test your knowledge of different animals with the simple clues or really challenge yourself with the bonus questions. HOW TO PLAY: 1 Single player: A single player can look through the card games to learn about animals through real photographs, clues which reveal their environments, behaviours, habits, food and other interesting facts. The cards even include the scientific divisions of the animals for really smart kids (classes, orders)! The card games ends when they have read all the cards. 2 Players: One player will have the job as ‘Cardholder’, and will read out the clues to the other player. The other player will then try to guess what animal is on the card. The ‘Cardholder’ will help guide the other player to guessing the animal right. The game ends when all the card have been guessed. 3+ Players: If there are more than 3 players, then one player will be selected as the ‘Cardholder’, who will be in control of the deck of cards. Everyone else will be players. The Cardholder will shuffle and draw a card, and then read out either the three clues on the card, or the bonus question if the players want a bigger challenge. The players then have to guess the animal, and the first one to guess it correctly gets to keep the card. If two players guess the correct answer at the same time, the card is held by the Cardholder, and the Cardholder then reads the next card. The next player to guess the next card correctly gets both cards. The first player to get seven cards wins, and they get the gold trophy! The second player to get seven cards will receive the silver trophy! The third player to get seven will get their hands on the bronze trophy! The card games ends after the all the trophies have been given out. Happy guessing! This isn't so much of a "game" in my opinion since it's really just informational cards about animals...but they're nice for doing a "reading" type of activity together with your kid that won't feel like "schoolwork" to them. :)My son is 8 & we're enjoying reading the colorful cards to each other & trying to guess the animals. Some of the animals I've never heard of, so it's neat to learn about some new animals. Some of the clues a kid really won't be able to guess what the animal is (or even an adult in some cases won't be able to guess the animal)...so some cards are easier & some are more challenging to guess which animal it is.I feel some of the cards focus too heavily on detailed explanations/clues about "where" the animal is located on the planet & it really isn't a clue sometimes that would help most people guess that particular animal on some of the cards. While it's important & nice to learn where each animal lives, it also would've been neat if they had included some more "unusual" & interesting facts about more of the animals. They're kind of basic cards for the most part that list just 3 things about each animal, & many times one of those clues/facts is where the animal is located/lives.The "bonus" question on each card about each animal are usually interesting ones with some unusual facts you'll learn about a lot of the animals, so those were a nice addition to the cards. :)The cards must be made in Britain or Canada, since some of the words aren't spelled in an American way...(like color is spelled "colour" and "molt" is spelled "moult" so just be aware of that.) And quite a few of the words on many of the cards are of a higher difficulty level that my just-turned-8-year old son couldn't hardly pronounce. Many of the cards are definitely worded in a way that is more "wordy" than necessary for kids & in a more "adult" type of manner, which is kind of weird being that they're made for kids to begin with, but they're worded very formally/"adult-like" on many of the cards...more for older kids it seems. So you can look at that as either a pro that it helps a kid to learn bigger, more complex words...& that these cards can also be appealing to older kids who have a love of animals, but some of the cards could be a bit frustrating for a younger child to read, depending on your child's temperament...my son didn't get frustrated reading the cards, but he seems to lose interest after reading a handful of them, possibly due to them not really being worded in an overly "kid-friendly" manner on every single card, & since it really isn't a typical "game" to him. But we're enjoying spending time reading a handful of cards back & forth to each other here & there & trying to guess the animals & learning about them. :)They've been a nice, fun way to learn about a lot of animals with my son & they're another way to encourage him to read, but as far as it being a "game" that we'd play over & over, it isn't really a "game" to me in that respect...it's more like something we'll use now & again as an interesting reading activity that's more fun to him than reading schoolwork. :PI think it could be played like a "game" as it states in the instructions...with older kids quizzing each other/playing against each other trying to be the one to guess the most animals...but once a child is familiar enough with remembering all of the animals on all of the cards, then the fun of it mayprobably wear off some I imagine...& that gives an unfair advantage for the child who owns the cards & "knows" all of the animals if they're playing against friends who have never played the game before. So it has it's advantages & disadvantages as far as it being a "game." But they're at least educational cards nonetheless, & nice for a child who has an interest/love of animals. :)I like the addition of the "trophy" cards so I can give my son a "gold trophy" card after each time we read the cards to compliment him on his reading skills (& he gives me the "silver trophy" card, lol.) The instructions state that the "trophy" cards are meant to be used at the end of the game for 2-3 kids playing it together where the kid who guesses the most animals correctly gets the "gold trophy" card, & there's a "silver trophy" card, & a "bronze trophy" card for the next 2 players...but then again, what kid wants to be the "loser" & get the "bronze" 3rd place trophy card. lol...so I don't know if I'd choose to utilize the trophy cards in that respect & make the last place child feel "last place."Overall, they're nicely made, colorful cards with some interesting/unusual animal facts...but I do think they could've included more information for the animals on the cards & more interesting/unusual facts for more of the animals, in order to make it more of a well-rounded learning activity about animals. It's a good gift idea for a kid who has an interest/love of animals & it's nice it encourages reading skills, so I like it for those aspects of it! So that's why I got it...as a different sort of "game" for me & my son where he's actually learning something & is also practicing his reading skills. :) I think they'd be great to pass down to younger siblings when an older sibling gets tired of using them/outgrows them, or they could be passed on to other family members/friends who have children, so these could be useful to a customer for a long time to come as a learning activity/game to pass on! :DMy kid loves it, it's a fun animal card game and she was excited when she received this gift. Initially she was attracted by the colors and colors of the cards and the packaging was beautiful. With protective film inside and out, the product is great. And more importantly, the content of the cards, which I think meets my expectations, is rich, scientific and interesting animal knowledge, and even some questions and answers have benefited me a lot. This will be the perfect weekend family game night and I'm looking forward to it.This game is great. The cards are good quality and durable. The pictures are wonderful and each card has great animal facts.
